This is the neighborhood I stayed in, bunking in as a 4th person in my friends' TriBeCa apartment.
- The TriBeCa FILM FESTIVAL: was on-going during this time. I found out that it was created in 2002, in part by director and actor Robert De Niro, to celebrate NY's reputation for being a filmmaking capital. This usually takes place in early May, and the festival showcases different films from classic to documentary.
- ZUTTO: on 77 Hudson St., New York, NY 10013, nr. Harrison St, this Japanese sushi bar has some of the best and most inventive makis in town.
- BAZZINI: Coined an 'old world gourmet market' by http://www.nymag.com Bazzini is run by Italians, and specializes in nuts (processed in the Bronx), fresh produce (fish, salads, cheese, hot dishes to take-away), dried fruit, and candies/chocolates. Established in 1886, its doors are still wide open on 339 Greenwich St., New York, NY 10013, at Jay St.
======
SoHo
You can find SoHo anywhere you can find 6th Avenue, Lafayette St, Houston St, and Canal St. Walking around in the late morning is perfect for the clothes and accessory stands, and at night it's good for dinner, maybe serious designer incognito shopping, or a quick drink with some very energetic people.
- The MERCER KITCHEN: Food was overpriced but more interesting than many, and ambience was cozy in some angles; dungeon-like in others. 99 Prince St., New York, NY 10012, at Mercer St.
======
LITTLE ITALY
In the ethnic Lower East Side, Italians, Chinese and Jew communities are able to preserve their food, languages and customs by putting up inviting restaurants and bakeries in this area.
- NYONYA: Spicy homecooked Malaysian (Penang-style) cuisine is as tasty as it sounds. It's a cross between Indonesian and Indian (and even Chinese), and there is added charm in this restaurant's unassuming demeanor. 194 Grand Street, crossstreets Mulberry and Mott.
======
CAFE LALO
Although labeled "the most famous cafe in NYC featured in the hit movie You've Got Mail," according to their official website http://www.cafelalo.com this place boasts some of the best desserts in town. It is also appreciated for its European inspired decor, designed to make you feel welcome whether alone or with company, at any time of day. On 201 West 83rd St. (btw. Amsterdam and Broadway), New York, NY 10024.
======
BRUNO'S BAKERY
Biagio Settepani, the owner and head baker of this bakery, is a medal-bedecked pastry chef, offering a wide variety of cakes, cookies, and rustic Italian breads that are not so easily found in NYC. 506 LaGuardia Place New York, NY 10012.
======
- SKY TRAM: The form of transporation that goes from 59th street to Roosevelt Island on a cable. A friend calls it the "Spiderman Tram" kasi dun shinoot yung Spiderman film.
- QUEENSBOROUGH BRIDGE: This bridge connects Manhattan to Long Island/Queens. Ganda nito.

TOWN TENNIS CLUB
Dante, introduced to me in NY, works here 7 days/wk as a head pro/director & tennis instructor to kids & adults alike. He also owns a mini pro-shop here. A private tennis club with only about 125 members allowed, this is said to be a place for tennis celebs. Dante's had the chance to play with Serena Williams at this club 2 years ago, at lumabas din sya sa 'Venus and Serena' reality show sa 'abc family' (national tv) practicing with Serena! Yay for him. He also got the opportunity to play with tennis legend Jimmy Connors there (not knowing much about tennis, i had to google him). Maria Sharapova, Jim Courier, Roger Federer are visitors. John F. Kennedy jr played there for many years before his tragic death. And I think his biggest client is Roger Waters (i had to google him too! hehe)... Double yay. On 430 east 56th st Ny Ny 10022, midtown eastside of manhattan.
======
GRILL 21
First time to taste pinoy food in months! Sa NY pa... Bangus, Tinapa, Sinangag, Sinigang na Sugpo, Atchara... Pinoy restaurant, small and cozy, on 21st and 1st avenue. :)
======
PINKBERRY
Our favorite mid-day tambayan! Low-cal frozen yoghurt swirls - even green tea yoghurt - with healthy fresh fruit and nut toppings of your choice. On the Upper East Side, 32nd Street in the upbeat gay district of Chelsea. http://www.pinkberry.com for more info :)
=====
CENTRAL PARK
I came in from 5th Avenue to the city's "backyard" as 'DK's Eyewitness Travel on New York' likes to say. This park has more than 500,000 trees, bedrock, lakes, bicyclists, lovers, skaters, students, businessmen, tourists and locals alike. Located in the Upper West Side, I spent two hours before my flight just lying on a bedrock, staring at the skyscrapers peeking from behind all the tall trees.
=====
BORDERS BOOKS & MUSIC STORE
As NY is known to be 'the publishing capital of America,' one of my first and last stops was on 461 Park Ave, one of several branches, this store offers the best selection of books and music of all genres, and has a café up top to boot.
=====
SERENDIPITY
Open til 2am on Saturdays, reservations in this quirky, semi-intimate cafe/resto are still required most times. Their official website showcases different fun-lovin Serendipity products for sale, as well as latest news and their full menu. Website- http://www.serendipity3.com/main.htm On 225 East 60th St. bet 2nd & 3rd aves.
STARBUCKS: The NY branch on 57th and Lexington is not any different from most other Starbucks branches anywhere else, but that's what defines the Starbucks revolution!
======
BROADWAY
- LES MISERABLES: Running at the Broadhurst Theatre, 235 West 44th St. bet 7th and 8th Ave, I was proud and happy to see our very own Tony Award winner Lea Salonga back on Broadway, playing the fantastic role of Fantine. This was the highlight of my trip-- thank you mama lei for your inspiring performance (you know what i mean by 'inspiring') and the very interesting tour of the black revolving stage!
Don't fail to catch her if you can, she is only playing til October. For more info on the NY run, here is their official website: http://www.lesmisnewyork.com

The Ma-Yi theater is also located in the heart of Tribeca. ["Ma-Yi" is the term used by ancient Chinese traders to refer to a group of islands that is known today as the Philippines.]
This weekend was the last run of an all Filipino cast (5 male ensemble) play called “The Romance of Magno Rubio”, a short story by our Lolo Carlos Bulosan re-written for the theatre. Low profile lang but the play is an absolute GEM! Ang taray!
The theatre director and most of the artistic staff are Filipino.
Hey KC; cool pix of the menu. I'm getting hungry. May halo-halo? Most caucasians I know who are married to Pinays here in Canada absolutely love 'sinigang'. My fiancé, who's Chinese loves the crispy pata. I love kare-kare, and pinakbet. Hmmm better ask my mom to make these.
Hi kace, nakaka miss naman itong bangos nagutom tulo ako isa sa mga paboritong pagkain.. where can you find this is NYC?? wave naman dyan.. i see your online..
you take great photos...you've got a great eye..i love this aerial shot. May I ask what kind of camera and model did you use? The photos are fantastic...You look so beautiful...Thanks in advance for answering my question regarding the camera you used for these NY pictures.
now i am excited!!! i had an early peek of what to see and visit when we go there in july... hope we can see lea performs... kaya lang we don't have much time...
wickedtin wrote on Jun 19, '07, edited on Jun 19, '07
i knew you were there to watch lea in les miz! :D lucky you got to tour backstage. :D
i also just came from new york. arrived back home here in manila 4 days ago. i already miss nyc and i can't wait to go back. i wish i could've stayed longer, and i would definitely use the other bits from your "travel guide" like pinkberry and other restos and shops. i really can't get enough of nyc! been there 3 times in my life. haaaay. i love new york! :D
wasn't lea lovely and sooo amazing as fantine?! lea in les miz was my reason for going to ny this time hehe. oh, btw, it's tony award. :D
i love your pic with lea! :D two of my most favorite filipino celebs and idols! hehe.
did you get to watch spring awakening?? GALING!! it's my new fave musical. i didn't get to watch wicked though, huhuhu. did you get to watch other shows aside from les miz? i hope you'll be able to reply. :)
wickedtin wrote on Jun 19, '07, edited on Jun 19, '07
oooh, is this what you rode when you took that aerial shot of a building (posted in your blog, highlights of nyc trip sometime last month)? i was wondering how you took that, if you took a helicopter tour or something hehe.
maybe you can please upload here also the high-res versions of those 3 shots? :) ganda kasi ng mga yun eh. (these pics -- http://kooki.multiply.com/journal/item/93)
i really love, love, love your pictures! i love how you focus on small parts, rather than taking the whole, big picture. ako kasi, more of taking what i see (wide) rather than focusing on something talaga. i dunno if that made sense to you hehe.

awwww..
minsan, habang naglalakad ako pauwi ako from school, saw an old couple.
si lola halos hindi na makalakad, one step is equivalent an ounce of strength. ang umaakay, si lolo na hirap na din maglakad.
i stopped on my tracks and looked at them for 1min (i know, bad of me not to help them. too busy looking at them in awe), i think. thinking, "sana ganyan din ako paglaki ko".
Thanks everyone for your replies! Buti naman may pakinabang ang cyber-guide and not-so-touristic tour!
Justine Tiffany : I will hopefully see you there babydoll! Cheers mamamits!
wickedtin : I haven't seen Spring Awakening. Thanks for the info! Lea was excellent in Fantine of course she disciplines herself and really puts in lots of time and effort into her work. Also, yes what you said about perspectives makes plenty of sense. You like the entirety of moments and capturing things in full view, while I tend to zoom in and shoot details.
diyosamakiling : such interesting info on Ma-Yi. really appreciate your opinions and contributions here :)
wasthatyourfave : no it wasn't scary height-wise. just the thought that that same tram was stranded in the middle of the cable suspended for more than 5 hours recently- that is scary.
princesashe : that is shweeeet!!! cue in : adam sandler - i wanna grow old with you
thanks to everyone who checked out this album! bisous! xx
did you eat in serendipity kace? i love their dessert!!!
Hi ate! Serendipity... ;) It was a quirky and interesting place, really packed! I went alone for 30 minutes before leaving for the airport. Got to taste their frozen hot chocolate! But honestly I thought the desserts in Cafe Lalo were much better! Have you been? :)

wickedtin: I know, the reply was for KC but I can't help but comment anyway, I so LOVE Spring Awakening! I can't stop listening to "Totally F____." It's like Rent of the 1800s. Hehehe. Duncan Sheik is a genius, especially how they incorporated mdern music in an "ancient" setting. And having microphones? cute.
By the way, lovely pics as usual KC. Always enjoy them :-)
hehehe... my boyfriend & I went on this caffeine-infused trek in search of the apartment they show on "Friends..." but, lo' and behold, all of the fire escapes in NY look like this :)
I hope you had fun n New York Kace. Its good that you're sharing your NY trip to other people, meaning you educating people about New York. Good job Girl:-) Take it easy now...
when did you go? just my luck... I had scheduled the Les Miz show to be last show to see (because that was to be the highlight of my musical-obsessed NY trek)... and Lea was sick or something :(
But yes, I will definitely be back before she bows out :)

Grabe! I looove grill 21! My friends and I consider it as, like the best Pinoy resto in NYC! You don't have to go all the way to Roosevelt/Woodside in Queens just to satisfy that Pinoy taste bud. Even my group mates (2 Americans, 1 French) got addicted to their Laing! Kaya nga from the moment we discovered it, naging panata na to eat here every Sunday after hearing mass at the Pinoy na Pinoy San Lorenzo Ruiz Chapel downtown. Another NY moment missed. Aaaww. ;C

A view from the window of the Brooklyn Heights apartment where I used to live. Grabe! At this side you see the Manhattan Bridge and Empire State Bldg. On the other side naman the Brooklyn Bridge. I am now dying to walk on that bridge again and get some ice cream at the end from the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory.
This is how much Ms. KC Concepcion made me miss my 2nd favorite city in the world. ;D

[repeat chorus]
[bridge] Wag mong sabihin nag-iisa ka Laging isipin meron kang kasama Narito ako oh, Narito ako

thanks KC for the info.. i'm planning to visit NY soon, my aunt lives there, and i'm pretty excited..i want to visit the john lennon tribute site(appropriately named Strawberry Fields) in central park among other things.. i'm really looking forward to it..lucky you, i see uve been there more than once! thanks again...=D
We have the same, kind of, like this one over here. We call it Gondola. It is at Grouse Mountain. It will take you from the foot of the mountain to the peak of the mountain. The view is just spectacular. Here is our gondola.
Kace, is it true that you lost your bike? I am slowly losing my bike. My bike is downstairs in the parking lot locked in the bike rack. During the winter time, I don't usually use it because it's freezing cold. I noticed, it is slowly disappearing. First, nawala yung mga reflectors. And then yung front tire, nawala yung sa loob na nilalagyan ng hangin. Last time I checked, the seat is gone. Oh well!!! Sabi ko sana nagagamit na lang nung kumukuha ang kinukuha. :-)
Next time you buy a new bike, you should do this para hindi na mawala ulit. I doubt if anyone will even try to steal it :-)
I've been there po when I was young, and so I did not appreciate it that much, it was long time ago na po(meron pang twin towers nun), Thank you, for once again I've seen the beauty of New York, my tita lives there though.. Enjoy! God Bless.. You and you're family are always in my prayers..

i love your NYC tips ... we're planning a family trip sometime next year - my first actually. it would be one very interesting trip ... i look forward to it.
i like this one. it reminds me of my dad. my dad likes tulips he likes giving mom those.. he is an artist and a designer. He likes making flower arrangements...and when it's finished...it's really beautiful. KC you really took pictures very nicely. This is a a GOOD ONE!!!!
Hi, this is the East River - the one you cross to get to Roosevelt Island. Hudson is on the other side - to the west of Manhattan island and the other side is New Jersey. Can be confusing, I don't blame you. :-)
Hi KC! I just saw your blogs and your pics and your photo essay of NYC is truly amazing! :) I love this pic the most.. the loaded shopping basket breaks the monotony of the floor as a background and your feet as an accessory.. hehe! :) Hope you share more of your pics on your trips abroad! :) take care! :)
thank you super, kc!!! i really enjoyed these pics!:p i've never been to NYC so when i look at these, i feel na nagsight-seeing na rin ako:)) thanks again! TCGB!
Still can't believe this is your account! ilang beses ako nagpa-ulit-ulit magtingin ng pictures mo... baka kasi fansite na naman, until nabasa ko ung mga blogs mo. Sarap basahin, kulit! hehe!
--- ganda ng mga pics! anong gamit mong cam? is it an slr?? ganda kasi nung ibang shot...
wickedtin : I haven't seen Spring Awakening. Thanks for the info! Lea was excellent in Fantine of course she disciplines herself and really puts in lots of time and effort into her work. hehehe, of course it's better the way you say it. :) but yeah, exactly! you zoom in on details. it's amazing how effortless it seems you take your pics, pero ang ganda ganda talaga. i want to "learn" to do that. other people can't do that, na parang zoom in and click lang, and come out with great pics the way you do.
when you have the chance, try and see spring awakening. or at least listen to the songs. it would be worth your time. galing!
wickedtin: I know, the reply was for KC but I can't help but comment anyway, I so LOVE Spring Awakening! I can't stop listening to "Totally F____." It's like Rent of the 1800s. Hehehe. galing noh!? :D i really love the show, the cast, the music, the story, and yes, how they put modern music in that setting. yeah, those mics were really cute! and how about those lights?! galing! very unconventional. they really deserved all those tonys -- and more! :)
Hi KC, Nice pics. The one in white jacket looks familiar. Is she Chiqui Colet? I used to work with her at Beacon School. You two look great! Send my warm regards to Chiqui.
Hi, Kace! NYC is the best! Nice photos you've got. I've visited the city for the 12th time. Just can't get enough of it. I used to live in the East Coast (NJ) and now I'm here in the West Coast. After browsing your photos, I'm missing NYC. Thanks!
Ey Kace! Tnx for posting this "mini-cyber guide". I'll keep a copy of this para pag pupunta na ako ng New York all these places will be on top of my list of must-see-places.
As always, cool shots you got here. Enjoy na naman ako sa pagka browse. (= Be safe always!
wow theres like 400 comments here and im adding my own pa hahah just would like to comment that i think it's really cool that you're very open with your multiply and how you can share parts of your life to everyone.. especially when everyone knows you and you don't necessarily know everyone back! :) im sure there are albums and entries that are just for your friends, but the public entries alone are overwhelming.. you handle celebrity status very well ;) or i guess it shows that you're really very down to earth, probably both actually. well im not trying to catch ur attention or provide compliments with a hidden agenda... i dont know if youll even ever read this. haha but if you do, i just wanted to commend you for being real, and hope you stay that way. maybe our paths will cross one day and i wont just be a stupid anonymous commenter on your multiply page haha god bless! :)
Hi Kace!!! I'm such a big fan...I always look forward to your newly posted pics...you are an ARTIST! I'm so proud of you :) Thanks for sharing to us a glimpse of your life...sometimes it seems like you are living our dreams for us....for me, the travels. You are so Blessed, and I feel Blessed with your presence in the world. God Bless(moree..moreee) and take care always. ~Elena Bush(California, USA)
lufthansa and kLM are both ok but if you are looking for a best service clarienet, i recommend singapore airlines, the best. I already tried almost all airlines travelling to europe but singapore is the best.
been to NYC a few times and i think pareho tayo ng ibang gustong pinupuntahan. I love TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL. Minsan pa lang akong nakaexperience but it was fun. Thanks for sharing KC!

great post! i have fond memories of the big apple too... and truth be told, your post only scratched the surface of how amazing the city is.
for me, the best part of my trip there was on my last day when i was at the village and discovered a nice italian gelato place called "cones" (johnnie walker ice cream... yum! and yup... they WILL card you. LOL.) and all those music stores at bleeker street. just a shame i didn't take pics that day.
more power to your multiply blog... and career as well... :)
it's the first apple store in manhattan or the whole of NY? we were suppouse to go on prince street but the guy @starbucks(somewhere near little italy) said there was no apple store around.
I've only been to New York twice, and you can't imagine how much I miss it. I daydream about it every single day... yeap. It's that bad. hehe... I can't wait til I'm allowed to finally stay in Manhattan with a friend or two so we can all go around New York the way you guys did. I just miss all the sights, the weather, the clothes, the food, ahhhh I really miss it. This album's just making me want to fastforward to my long break even more! I really want to go back and experience so much more!
