Article:
"While anybody has the facility to string together words that rhyme and pass it for poetry, Kooky writes passion in verse. Her poems are alive with eloquence and emotion. Each line is a sincere confession of her life, love and boundless imagination. Each phrase is a verbal manifestation of her artistic expression. This is her gift, her craft, her humble offering to the world.
As a poet, Kooky paints a vivid picture of love in all its glory and gore. This astute student of life uses her own experiences, from pain and pleasure to heartbreak and ecstasy, to fuel the fire of her verses. She also takes inspiration from the experiences of friends and family who have loved and continue to love. Kooky then takes the bitter and the sweet to make poetic confections, lyrical morsels that bite the heart while nourishing the soul.
For years, she has hidden her poetry away from prying eyes in a battle-scarred notebook. Now, she is bringing it out in the open and sharing it to the world for a worthy cause.
Entitled Romancing Venus, her album offers 25 stellar tracks of poetry delivered by 22 women from all walks of life. As with every poem, each collaborating artist is unique and driven by different motivations, but nevertheless, inspired by Kooky's words. On hand are actresses, musicians and literary artists like Angel Aquino, Barbie Almalbis of Barbie's Cradle, Julia Clarette, Hannah Romawac of Session Road, Maegan Aguilar, Kim and Monique of Seven Shots, Triccia David, Iza Calzado, Honey Cruz, Chinie Hidalgo, Cindy Kurleto, Charms Tianzon of Matilda, Wawi Navarroza of The Late Isabel, Jill Villanueva, Angel Jones, Crystal of Magic 89.9WTM, Chinggay Andrada, Kate Torralba, Myrza Sison and Kara David. Adding to the mood and mystique are musical tracks from hip-hop artists and producers Pikaso and Nathan Johnson, college student Eudoxia, Barbie Almalbis, and Nicanore, the Conductor. Distributed by EMI Records and available at TowerRecords and Music One.
Part of the proceeds will benefit the Women's Crisis Center, an organization that holds a special place in Kooky's heart. "I survived abuse and I know what the women in the Center are going through. That is why I want to help and this album is my way of reaching out to them," she confesses.
With Romancing Venus, Kooky has single-handedly gathered a formidable assembly of women who willingly offered their time and talent to read her poetry and join her in a timely and relevant cause. But the album not only serves as validation for her tireless effort to realize her passion. It is also a reminderof the overwhelming possibilities that lie in each individual despite all odds.
Aside from Romancing Venus, Kooky is also busy working on a book featuring the writings and artworks of 100 women, a concert top-billed by women artists, poetry writing workshops, poetry reading sessions and otherartistic projects dedicated to the celebration of women--their beauty and brains, their mission and vision, their eccentricities and their kinship with the rest of humanity."
